Although it's still by-hand, I've had good luck using a curved cabinet scraper on the interior. You've got to keep a good burr on the edge, but once you do, fairing the interior is not such a hard job. In fact, I kind of like it (to a point). After scraping, I use the foam block and sandpaper to give the surface some tooth, then I'm done.
