Hello,
I´ve read somewhere that the bifid bow on the baidarka in some cases was meant to imitate the profile of a swimming seal or sea-otter. The baidarka has a low profile in water and this bow wouldn´t scare the animals when sneeking upon them. They could come a bit closer this way.
