I'm either about to embark on the biggest debacle of my life or its most satisfying project. Time will tell. As a warm up for building my own kayak someday, I'm going to build my step-son and his fiance a stitch and glue canoe for their wedding present. The check is in the mail today to Green Valley for the Kipawa II S&G plans. I've located a source of Okoume a three hour drive from here and am trying to find a pickup to borrow to go get some. The die is cast.
I've been about a year getting to this place of actually choosing a design, a method, and committing to a project. Thanks to everyone who has endured my questions and indecisiveness and given me nothing but encouragement.
The wedding's in June, but I'm a CPA and in the midst of tax season, so it's going to be tight. If I can just get set up, get the plywood scarfed, and the panels cut out by mid April, I'll be happy. Then I can go at it with gusto.
I'm scared to death, but excited too.
I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions.
