Strip: Throw away that stapler

Having tried not to use the stapler I have tried several approaches using spring clamps. I finally settled on a new (to me) approach that I have not heard others talk about.

I have cut several 1"x random length (4-6") strips from an inner tube. I use these with spring clamps to hold one strip to the other. Position the wood strip in place and drape the inner tube piece over it. Open the clamp catch on jaw on the rubber. With while holding on end of the strip with that jaw, stretch the rubber and finish by clamping the other jaw on the rubber. This becomes an inverted U held in place by a small spring clamp.
