: In what portion of the strip did you make your cuts? The areas I need to bend
: are not at the ends of a strip ... they are in the center and the bend is
: perpendicular to the width of the strip. Do you have a pic that shows
: where you did this?

Joe explained it very well, better then me. My boat was short (11'6")long, wide (38") and rounded and many of the strip didn't just want to lay very good, more so then the picture would indicate. The strips on the hull pulled in and swept up from the mid section of the boat in less then 6 feet. I had to do some splitting here. Even worse was the deck strips coming down to the shear. They rounded down very hard the last few inches. I broke several here. I even has some clamped in place and they would crack with a bang 5 or 10 minutes later. When you slit a ¾" wide strip in a hard bending area you are just making a cheater strip in that problem area. All of my slits were on the ends as I remember, some up to 2 feet long. When you pull your strip inward and upward the split part of the strip will twist with its corners edges sticking up as the strip adjust to make the compound bend, but this is faired when you sand your boat. You can spread you two split sections up and down rather then apart and gets some glue on them. Later when you epoxy you boat the epoxy will flow into any portion of the slit that doesn’t have glue.

I also used a medium thick super glue and a spray excellerator to hold some difficult strips in place, instantly.
