Material: Pads beneath paddle park bungies

I really like using the bungies I put near the bow to hold one end of my paddle (similar to Greenland style deck rigging) plus other bungies near the stern for my spare paddle.

Alas, the varnish is getting rather nasty scratches from sliding my commercial paddle beneath them.

So, although it probably means hiding some of the grain on my S&G deck, I'm thinking about gluing some sort of pad or rub-sheet on where the paddles scrape.

Any suggestions/preferences about what to use? Thin neoprene? Reflective tape? A photo cut out of my favorite magazine?

Val
