: I am nearing the point of working on the cockpit of my Night Herron. I am
: building the high/regular deck version. As I read in Nick's book he talks
: about the recessed deck.

: What is the advantage/disadvantage? I am 180#'s and 6'0". Both of my
: other plastic boats do not have recessed cockpits and I have no trouble
: attaching a spray skirt.

The fore deck of the Night Heron is relatively high. Making the recess lowers the the combing so you will not knock it as much. The peak deck sort of forces a peak at the front of the cockpit which looks funny and tends to rip sprayskirts. The recess lets you make a rounded front on the cockpit. The recess is entirely optional, but I like it.
