: I am nearing the point of working on the cockpit of my Night Herron. I am
: building the high/regular deck version. As I read in Nick's book he talks
: about the recessed deck.

: What is the advantage/disadvantage? I am 180#'s and 6'0". Both of my
: other plastic boats do not have recessed cockpits and I have no trouble
: attaching a spray skirt.

Like Nick said, you eliminate the peak in the front of the coaming. Like Brian said, it lowers the coaming for easier laybacks and sculling. With a boat like the Night Heron, you're going to want to roll it--go for the recess.
