Today I tried again to glue a fiberglass tape across the butt joins and was much more successful. I used C-Clamps to hold the tape at the sheer and push pins to make it lay flat. This worked great. I have hardly any air under the tape (perhaps none). It is drying now and I'm a happy camper.
