: Greg: I've been looking at Kokotat Dry suits, and remember that their first
: iterations of the Goretex socks were bulky. I preferred the latex socks
: when I rented a suit (which was/is totally fantastic and the best garment
: a kayaker could ever purchase). Why did you get the Goretex socks? Do they
: fit OK? Since Goretex needs to be clean in order to pass vapor, will the
: socks stay clean enough to retain their breathable function?

: Jim
Jim-Why the Goretex socks? Mainly because I thought they'd be more durable and because my feet sweat profusely, and (I'm told) tend to be malodorous when they do. One of my paddling buds, who manages the local paddling shop, has told me several stories about latex socks giving it up under duress, and I've read a few other accounts of them failing. Before the retrofit, I used heavy socks and wore Chota mukluks; now, with the same socks inside the GT socks, with the mukluks over those, my feet are noticeably drier than before. The GT socks are a little bigger than I need, but that hasn't been a problem. The only gripes I have with the suit itself are that the fit around my calves is a little tight, as is the velcro neck closure. Of these, the neck closure is more of a pain in the keester (keister?); Kokatat could have used a little more material on that flap. The tightness around the calves is not a problem once I pull the legs down a bit. That said, I gotta say that I love the suit over all; it's so much more comfortable than my wet suit (and nowhere near as rancid after a long day in the boat). As for the pores becoming clogged, I guess that I'll just have to wash it occasionally as per instructions, not let the crud build up.-Greg
