: Pete, I would be extra careful with Xlyene. The label on mine about caution
: and health hazards is scarier then anything I have in the shop. It says it
: is very explosive and causes cancer and birth defects, along with brain
: and nervous system damage. I used this once outdoors and was dressed in
: old clothes and gloves. Usually I am not squeamish about these kind of
: products but I give this one some respect.
Ditto. You get almost the same effect with isopropyl alcohol, "rubbing alcohol" available at the drug store for about 1$ per quart and no scary MSDS to worry about.
20 years ago it was common practice in the epoxy floor business to keep a cutting bucket with a couple inches of xylene in it handy for use as trowel lube. Handy, as in within sniffing range all day, with no respirator. Some guys used to wash their hands in it when things got too crusty to work right. Thank heaven we are all smarter these days, and some were smarter even then.
