If you use thickened epoxy then whatever you seal will appear slightly different than when sealed with unthickened. If you want you can slather excess unthickened then the hip plates, coaming spacers and coaming ring are fine places. The greatest amount of wasted epoxy occurs in the application of the largest areas so the amounted wasted now is very little.
