Material: 6 oz vs 4 oz cloth?

I am almost ready to put the fiberglass cloth on the hybrid kayak that I'm building. I plan on using 6 oz cloth on the hull for the durability and strength. But I was wondering how much of a weight difference there would be by using 4 oz or even 2 oz cloth on the decks. Also, am I mistaken in the idea that I don't have to worry as much about the strength on the decks, vs the stremgth of the hull. Thanks, Pamela
