Hi. I'm new to the forum and to kayak building as well. I've just about finished the skeleton to the Guillemot Fast Double and need to decide what wood to use. I have a shop where I can make the cove and bead strips. I know where I can get some butternut and was wondering if anyone here had used it in their kayak. While classified as a hardwood it has softwood characteristics and is fairly lightweight. It's rather pretty and I have some walnut on hand that would look good as accent strips. What I don't know is if it would bend well or how its strength would compare to cedar. Does anyone have any experience with it? Thanks, Mark
