: We are doing a Pygmy Wineglass Wherry as a group project. We just finished
: glassing the inside, which we will finish bright. I was wondering if we
: need to completely fill the weave on this glass as we did on the outside
: of the hull, or if we can leave it with a “non-skid” pattern.
: If we don’t fill the weave, we can’t sand it fair without cutting into the
: glass, which we don’t want to do.

: The main question is: Can you varnish over non-sanded epoxy?
: Will this effect the adhesion of the varnish?
: Will a light buffing with steel wool be effective?
: We want to avoid using a lot more epoxy, and a lot of sanding too.

You need at least one fill coat over wet-out interior glass to ensure a
water proof surface.

Yes, you can varnish over the glass texture. Be sure to scrub it with
water and a plastic scrub pad to remove amine blush if your resin produces
it. Then sand lightly with 120 paper and varnish.
