I have been doing that on a few s-o-f's. It is a good way to get the decklines on if you don't want to thread them through the gunnels. I never have tried to lift the boat with these attachments though. It's tough to sew them on, but with a good curved needle it's possible.
Picture shows the rigging and a few antler beads for a paddle park on my Baidarka.
