In Response To: Tools: Embarrassing (John Monfoe)

Some years ago Fine Woodworking did a survey of shop accidents and found the table saw to be the main culprit (no surprise). Time of day was a key factor, however, with most accidents coming just after lunch (food/beer coma) and just before quitting time (rushing to finish that last little bit).

As a kid I was inspired by a professional cabinetmaker and woodworker who lived across the street. He could make absolutely anything at all, and once made a violin from a lemon tree that died in his backyard. I was also terrified by the three or four missing and partly chawed digits on both his hands.

Very sorry about your accident, John, and glad it wasn't worse.
