I'm about to build my first boat, an 8' Tree Frog Pram. The plans call for a scarfing joint because of the change in grain where the curve of the flat bottom boat occurs. I'm a little intimidated by these scarfing joints as they look like they would be easy to screw up. I've read on another web site that you can use a step scarf joint which is kind of like a lap joint. I'd like to know what experiences others have had with problems doing these type of joints. I would perfer not to do a butt joint as I'd like to keep the inside of the boat as clean as possible. I know that this is a kayak building bulletin board but you guys probably have the most experience making scarf joints.
