My GPS solution is the same as yours: a $100 Magellan. If I get a second as a back up I'm looking at the Magellan 310 for $110 at Harbor Freight.

The big difference between the $100 models and the $300 models is that the expensive ones have graphical displays and downloadable charts and landmarks. But even the cheapest GPS will get you where you want to go with greater accuracy than you can read a standard scale chart.
