Hi, all-Getting ready to revarnish the Osprey, and have a question, namely: last year, in an attempt to level the field before a long paddle with younger, stronger folk, I waxed my hull with an automotive carnauba wax. How do I go about prepping the hull for refinishng? Should I clean the hull with a solvent before sanding to remove the remaining wax, or will sanding alone do the job?
Also, I'm switching to Captain's varnish this time, as it flows on much more easily and levels better that Flagship. It has, however, less resistance to UV than Flagship (an engineer friend took varnish samples into the lab and beat the living hell out of them with UV; Flagship proved the most durable); any opinions on how many extra coats of Captains would be needed to furnish the same resistance to UV as Flagship? Thanks in advance, Greg
