In Response To: Material: Varnish boo boo(?) (doug)

: I just put a coat of varnish on the hull of my S&G. Having (foolishly)
: believed reading about thinning it with denatured alcohol, I did. It
: seemed to go on well.

: Only after finishing , I read 'not compatible with varnishes' on the can of
: alcohol. Am I screwed? I am watching a sample of the varnish but it is too
: early to tell anything. If it sets up, no problem. If not, what should I
: do?

Alcohol is not a thinner for varnish. It WILL NOT cure properly.

Use alcolhol and fine steel wool to remove the finish now and follow the instructions
to apply a new varnish finish.

All the best,
Rob
