: Once again, I seem to be re-hashing an old topic that has probably been
: debated all the way around the block, but my search of the archives didn't

I use 6 oz. plain weave, one layer on deck and one below with a second layer of
6 or 4 oz. below the waterline.

I've found one layer of 4 oz. dents very easily.

I've found the satin weaves are denser and do not wet out as clearly.

I've had consistanly good transparent results by applying a seal coat, not touching it,
and when green and tack free, applying the glass.

I always wet-out the glass in a warm shop 80°+ with the temperature dropping
and use a slow hardener. I never mix more than 6 oz. of resin at one time, so
I'm always working with the thinnest viscosity possble.I roll on resin and squeegee
off the excess after I wet-out half the boat, then wet-out and squeegee off the rest.
Any foam or bubbles left by the roller get removed with the squeegee. I make my
squeegees from plastic milk cartons. It hard enough to do the job but soft enough
not to take off too much resin.

I've found the combination of a warm shop (warm boat warm thin resin), slow
hardener, and small batches of resin give the 6 oz. glass all the conditions it
needs to be very transparent.

The same resin, temperature routine must be used for the second layer of glass
on the hull deck joint and stem reinforcement for it to be transparent.

I noticed the times I used a medium hardener at 70° on the deck/hull seam
and stem glass the results were not as transparent.
