: I am thinking about adding a painted vertical stripe on the stern of my kayak
: to cover up a mistake. The boat has the epoxy precoat and is about to be
: glassed. Can I paint the stripe before glassing or should I wait and paint
: the stripe after the boat has been glassed?

: Does anyone have recommendations on the type of paint I should use?

: Thanks

As long as you want to do this in black it is rather easy to just use pigmented epoxy. A few cents worth of copier toner, or graphite mixed into an ounce or two of mixed epoxy will do the job. Save $$$ on paint and you'll guarantee compatibility.

Should you wish to do some other color you can get pigments for fiberglass resins from several suppliers. Start by asking the place you got your resin if they stock these tinting or coloring pigments. A small package should be around $5 -- and be far more than you'll need for this job.

hope this helps
