Hi All:
I am considering making a double kayak as my next project, and I am wondering if there is any experience out there as to completed weights on strip built doubles. I like the available strip designs a lot better than those for S & G plywood, but I am concerned about final weight. My strip singles seem to come out about five pounds above advertised weight (mid 40s) , despite my best efforts.
I imagine that there would be more variability on doubles depending on outfitting, but my goal would be to make a boat for day use mostly, rather than expeditions. I have my eye on Nick's Great Auk double and his new Night Heron based double. I would love the Fast Double but my shop is not long enough!
So, how aout it guys (and ladies)? How have we done on doubles? What can I expect in the real world?
