: I noticed a subtle silver fleck under sections of my glass. I figured that I

: what is it. I'd like to avoid it on deck.

The standard prewoven tape that is often used for the sheer for some reason does not seem to wet out as well as the broad cloth. This may be in part due to the fact that it is 9 oz as opposed to 4 or 6, but I also suspect that the sizing or coating applied to the cloth is not really intended for epoxy. These days I just use the prewoven tape on the inside seam where it is not as visible. I hand cut cloth to make tape for the outside seam. The reason I use prewoven on the inside instead of hand cut is the edges of hand cut unravel very easily and this can be most discouraging when you have your head stuck inside a stinky boat.
