Hello rick, I have only used the 2x4 strongback, I'm 3/4 done with a Guillemot. I found the 2x4 easy to line up the first time, but it moved if I kicked the horses it was secured to. After I anchored the horses and got a few strips in place, the setup was very solid. I didn't try a ply box because of the labor and chances that I might build a curve into the strongback. Finding a straight 2x4 wasn't all that hard, just look in the center of a unit of 2x's at the lumber yard. Good luck. Steve
