I'm on the second coat of varnish on my GB, using the foam brush technique, WOW! I wouldn't have believed that it could flow out so well. It looks like glass, no brush marks whatever. I now understand the importance of lots of light so you don't miss spots.
My question is in regard to sanding. The damn stuff is so hard that wet sanding doesn't seem to remove much gloss and I'm concerned that I won't get the "tooth" needed for the next coat. I switched to superfine steel wool and was able to dull the finish fairly easily. I notice that this has never been suggested on the board and it occurs to me that there might be a good reason for this.
Has anyone else used steel wool rather than sanding between varnish coats? Is there some reason I shouldn't? I'd hate to find out that it was a bad idea after 4 layers of Z-spar
