:Just a comment about finishes...as mentioned, I did mine "bright"...used Deft brushing lacquer...smells bad, but after drying it is supposed to be child-safe, according to the website. Epoxies are used in the food service industry, so they should be OK...don't know about other paints and finishes....babies are pretty much edentulous, but as they grow and use the cradle as a toy box, they may chew on the wood. (Saw too many kids with lead poisining at a previous job, so I know they'll chew on anything - RI is trying to bring a suit against paint mfgs. for lead paint, much like the tobacco suits...don't know if the intentions are good, or just another field day for politicians and lawyers).
