The discussion mentioned throwing it away after a few scratches and dents. It won't happen if it is given the respect it deserves. I built a rocking horse for our second son about 25 years ago. It is now in the living room complete with hammer and teeth marks, holding our other sons prised teddy bear. Both are waiting new kids to play with and abuse.

Our daughter is now expecting and I am building the Dingy cradle. Not for the daughter but for my wife. If the others have kids, then they will in turn use it, no matter how many dings it gets. In between uses I expect it will reside in the living room with toys and stuffed animals as passengers, acquiring a new set of character marks.
