Strip: Varnish... gloss, semi-gloss, or satin

Looking for recommendations of brand names and whether gloss, semi-gloss, or satin is the finish of choice. Seems to me that gloss will show all the imperfections while satin might show more scratches.
Home depot only carries an indoor/outdoor spar urethane varnish. Not sure this will have enough UV protection. Looking to the experts for recommendations.
