I use the Porter Cable Circ. Saw with the left hand blade even though I'm right handed. I can see the blade better. It's got a huge, smooth platform for keeping the cuts accurate and stable. The power is adequate, and then some, for careful ripping and cross cutting of play material. I also have the smaller version of the Porter Circ for light duty, delicate work.
I also own the Skill 77 and use it for banging out rough cuts in framing material. The Milwaukee is a close rival for that type of work.
Either way, and this is a big deal to me, don't slip a wedge under the pivoting blade guard and leave the blade exposed for convenience. I watched a framer remove the front of his foot, once, due to that very modification. Not a place I wish to visit.
If your work is hanging up on the blade guard, then fixture the cutting piece safely and draw the blade guard up with your free hand to start the cut. Or find another tool to make the cut and stay out of the hospital.
Apologies if this is redundant to your work habits.
There are several very good machines available and it all depends on the use to which you will put them. In the end, though, it all comes down to choice of blade and how sharp you keep it.
With a well made, balanced and sharpened blade, I've watched more than a few old timers do some magical things with one of those polished aluminum saws from the sixties.
Just have fun and be careful.
