The answer to your REAL question is: Yes, I am insane :D

The other answer is: It's volume is about the same as many doubles and triples... It's intended for two adults and two small children. I was getting ready to make a triple and then changed to the open cockpit for a few reasons: I consider a coaming/sprayskirt arrangement to be cold water/rough water equipment... I wouldn't feel particularly safe paddling a triple (or even a double) in less-than-ideal conditions so why even include a rough water package. That's the main one, plus I would never paddle with a child in rough or cold water. That's why there are no coamings, just one big cockpit.
