: encouragement!! How do I post a smaller photo??
: Steve

Your picture is 1280 x 960 pixels. The first number is the width and the second number is the height. If you want one half that size, then you need to create one which is 640 x 480. Of course you can also make your picture any size in between, or bigger or smaller. Personally I think a picture about 350 to 400 pixels wide looks nice on these pages. The height would be proportional to the width.

To create a smaller picture you have to go into your photo editing software (something came with your operating system, scanner or digital camera which will work) and resize A COPY of the picture. Be certain that you do this work on a copy, as you will permanently alter whatever you work on, and you don't want to lose your original.

Save the file with a new name, and in a compressed format. The standards for web posting are JPEG (.jpg) or .gif formats. Once you have created this you can use it whenever you want that smaller picture.

If you resize a photo and make it smaller, and then want to have it larger again, you will notice a defintie loss of quality. Whatever inage data was removed when the photo was reduced is gone for good, and it doesn't come back on re enlarging it. :( So jsut do your editing work on copies and save the original files intact.

Hope this helps
