Skin-on-Frame: Coaming size in Morris' book? *Pic*

Well, here I am again with another question. I'm drawing the template onto plywood that will become the mold for bending the strips that make up the coaming. The text says the cockpit should be 20-1/2" x 18", and refers you to the drawing. The drawing looks about the shape I would expect for a coaming, but if you count the little squares, the drawing is 16" wide x 20-1/2" long, not 18".

So what size have others gone with. I'm 6'1" and 170#, so isn't 18" kinda wide? Should I leave it that way so others who aren't as skinny can use it? Or do I pull in the sides and keep the rim close and out of the way? What do you skin-on-frame afficianadoes all think?

Staring at the boat again in Santa Cruz...
Mark
