Personally, I like simple. It sounds like it should work. Just glass one magnet in one the lip and rout out a depression on the hatch. Seal the other magnet in the hatch. Bada bing, bada boom... I'm just getting ready to do the same on my AT14. I'm using the hatch kit from Pygmy, so I'm going to recess the lip magnet before I glass the lip. Same principle. What size magnets are you getting? I opted for the 3/8 since I don't expect to be taking this boat anyplace too gnarly. Later, if needed, some external straps could always be added for more security.
