In Response To: Tools: Heat Gun temperature? (Terry Hanson)

: I've been trying to shape some spruce ribs with a B&D heat gun . It's rated
: at 1200 watts with 2 temp settings 260/550*C.
: Is this gun up to the job or am I missing something?
: Thanks Terry

Remember, all bending (compression) of the wood takes place on the inside
of the curve, so you must apply heat to the wood surface that will be on the
inside of the curve.

Clamp the wood as close as possible to the area being bent and then apply
force to the wood to make it bend before it is as hot as it needs to be.

This way the wood will bend exactly when the temperature is correct and you'll
scorch the surface less. Move quickly to adjacent areas to continue the bending.

All the bet,
Rob
