I filled the nail hole in the usual way (for me)... replace the nail with a splinter of wood and sand lightly. I didn't have to do any other filling. The wood shaving will form to any small indentation and then light sanding will make it flush. If there were a large depression then I would fill with glue and wood flour, but I didn't have any that needed it. The blemishes were small enough that only a very small veneer was needed. Plain wood glue and a little fingernail pressure was all it took to get the veneer to adhere. A large blemish would have been more complicated.
