Strip: External Forms with Wedges

Last week I went to a local timber yard that specialises in Cedar. They had a wall of photos of boats being built with their products.

One interesting one was a Canoe being stripped upside down on internal forms. It also had external "forms" that sat just above the strips, and small wedges were used to hold the strips in place. No staples, no hot melt glue.

It could be a pain to feed the strips in between the forms and complex shapes like on a kayak hull might be difficult to do, but it should be possible to lay down as many strips as you want in a session.

Since I'm about to start a hybrid clc 17lt, I'm thinking of giving this a try when I get to stripping the deck. It should be pretty simple because the forms will just be an arc.

Have any of you ever tried this method? I don't think I have seen it before.

Any comments or experience?
