Based on the great responses I got yesterday (thanks a bunch!!), I will look for WRC in decking or fence boards, try not to use STK if at all possible, and also consider alternatives. One alternative that I do have plenty of locally is Bald Cypress, but I've never seen a boat made from that.

Does anyone have photos of, or know the web address for pictures of boats made from Cypress? I like the colors of the medium to darker WRC and want to see how the Cypress compares.

I don't think I can user the redwood. I believe I heard that it doesn't bend as well as some of the other woods, and I'm building an Outer Island which has some decent curves compared to some other boats. Jay and others who built the OI -- is it correct that Redwood would not be a great choice for the OI? May be mute.... I've yet to see any Redwood in my area, anyway.
