since many epoxys are certified for holding fresh water (once they have hardened and you scrub them free of blush) it seems probable that brewing containers could easily be made of strips or tortured plywood. The common barrel shape, which developed as a result of coopers' abilities with joinery can be replaced by some other shape which would perhaps suit home builders/brewers better. A cylinder, for example, would be easy to construct forms for, and stapleless construction would be fairly simple with such a regular shape. Bead and cove strips could be used, or, by counting the number of strips and dividing that into 180 you could determine the angle to bevel each edge, for a perfect shape without the need for routers.
