Brian,

Today, I finished glassing my first canoe with 4-harness 5oz (22 threads per inch). It looks good now, but I really cannot recommend it. The pattern will shift at the slightest provocation, it is impossible to cut cleanly without lots of loose strands and I had to brush on the epoxy in one direction only:

The 4-harness weave means that the longitudinal strands spend most of their time on one side of the cloth and the cross-strands on the other side. I had to brush across the predominant superficial direction of strands to avoid bubbles.

However, the weave IS very flat, which makes it easier to hide extra patches under your main layer. Also, the 4-harness weave is looking good on the inside where I decided not to fill it. So if you already have this type of cloth, do some tests to find the best way for avoiding bubbles and go for it.
