Thanks for all of the advice. I decided to go the route of the kerosene space heater. I picked up a 26K btu unit at Home Depot for $114 and 5 gallons of kerosene (not sold at Home Depot, but available at Fred Meyers (the Pacific Northwest version of Wal*Mart)) for $16. I figured it was the most portable option and the one with the highest potential for other uses. It is now in the garage, heating away (with a CO monitor nearby). It seems to have good output. I'll report the results.
I knew I had reached a certain level with my wife when she offered to let me bring it in the house and glass in the living room. I decided against it, but appreciated the gesture.
