Hi Jim, I can't imagine a rule of thumb being possible given all the other variables that affect stability. The shape of the seat can make a big difference on how you can controll the boat in it's range of stability or whether thigh straps are available for more responsive hull shapes. Paddle a Scupper Pro and a Necky Dolphin to get an idea of a range.
