Hi Chris, a scroll saw will really help if you plan on making custom parts for your yak like: a rudder, foot pedals, hatch closures or if you were to do special inlay work. That stuff gets tedious with a coping saw. A sander is a nice idea too; I think you're talking about one of those table sander combos. A table sander is convenient for making patterns or shaping pieces in general. I sometimes clamped my speed file into a vise for a type of hand-table sander

I'm really keen on the Fein Vacuums now - it looks like that is what Santa will bring me (my wife loves vacuum cleaners). Fein vacuums are quiet, get the small particles, connects to your sander and is designed for continuous operation. My all time favorite is the Clifton 3110 shoulder plane.
