As I recall, there is a tendency for redwood to darken more than cedar when epoxied,
but my cedar experience is limited to paddles. I used redwood for
several kayaks, and made one canoe out of pine (Jensen Pro-Boat).

In my area, redwood was much less expensive than cedar, as a less
than clear grade redwood could be used since it had so few knots.

Attached is a pic of a redwood version of LM2-14886 built in
my pre-SOF days.
