: I admit the smooth, solid deck does look cool. But to me with the canted
: cockpit of the traditional greenland style cockpit, attempting to strip
: over the sharp fore-aft transition just seems like being a glutton for
: punishment. I have no doubt it can be done, but is the temporary cool look
: worth the effort? I am so relieved when I no longer have to try to fit
: both ends of a strip, that I happily forego the chance to see the solid
: smooth deck.

while i also agree it is extra work and would not do it that way some possible advantages are:

-the lines and wood color automatically match and flow thru from one end of the yak to the other.
-the very end curvatures (in side profile section) of the strips when they get cut right at the cockpit opening will tend to remain. having long (prob 6in or so)overshoots would do the same thing tho'.
-it could compensate for having less forms in that the strip curvature will also extend past the forms nearest the cockpit cutout.

also if a ditch cockpit is used, the cutout may make a complete or say if not even a partial totally matched cockpit cover if one wanted.
