Bob,

I suspect that there is little measurable differece in strength between the two methods. Remember that the wood is sandwiched between glass and epoxy which comprise the majority of the strength. Any gaps in a rolling bevel or bead and cove core get filled with epoxy which is as strong as the wood itself. If you make tight joint you get a somewhat lighter boat.

You shouldn't make your construction decision based based on strength. An aerospace engineer probably cares about the difference but, in my opinion it doesn't matter in kayak kayak construction.

Regards,

Jack

: Paul: MANY thanks....a great explanation.

: It leads me to another question that I am sure has been addressed a few
: thousand times. There are some folks who use the rolling bevel approach,
: others who use the b & c approach.....and there are proponents for
: both in plans I have read. Some rolling bevel folks say there is no
: decrease in the integrity of the boat using their technique, while some
: b&c folks say there is increased integrity in their final product.

: So...here is the question: Both having an equal application of glass and
: epoxy....in the end....does the b&c joint core ultimately provide a
: stronger boat vs. the rolling bevel joint core? Once the glass is cured,
: does it matter that the core differs?
