: Hi Brian

: I just looked over the pictures for the first time and am quite impressed. Do
: you know if a flat-fold seam was used on the deck, or if the two halves
: were just pulled together as in Mark Starr's book?

Considering I spent ~12 hours sewing it, I'm pretty familiar with the seam. The stitch width is ~1/2" and the typical overlap is 1/4"-3/8". The edges are hot cut during stitching with this overlap in mind. I installed a temporary center stringer in the deck, made of 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum. It served as a cutting surface and stitching guide. This type of stiching is rather time consuming, but it's not difficult once you get the hang of it.

: What sort of foam is that used in the floor and seat area?

It's just minicel, the stuff that Harmony sells for whitewater boats.

: And last but not least, I see all of his deck rigging lines running off
: around the gunnal and have seen it on other boats as well, but I have
: never seen "Where they Go, or How they are Attached"!

They are just run through holes in the skin and gunwales. I use a blunted 20d nail heated with a torch to melt holes in the skin, then I drill through the gunwales. The holes are sealed with varnish, then an application of thinned Marine Goop.

: I want
: full deck-rigging on mine and my grandchildrens boats and this set up
: looks really slick.

I'd like to put full perimeter lines on, but I haven't figured out a way that won't look out of place on a semi-traditional boat.

: That is one super looking boat!

Thanks. Actually, I think my first one is prettier. Craig Bumgarner shot some nice pics of it which are posted at:

: Thanks for the pictures..... :)

You're welcome. I'll shoot a pic or two of the rigging attachment and post them. I'm planning to do another album of deck rigging photos.

: Rehd

Now I'm REALLY getting confused!

Brian
