red oak not for boat.

: I spent about $280 on wood. That much because I am using more
: expensive/quality wood, i.e. red wood, Mahogany, red oak, and have enough
: for two boats (I don't want to spend another 4-5 hours going through wood
: piles again for the next boat). Folks have successfully used less
: expensive wood like clear pine and spruce for most of the SOF frame. I
: think the skin will cost another $100-$150 depending on the thickness of
: the material I choose to go with.

Redwood is fine, but I don't think redoak is a good choice for boat. Red oak is porous (you can actually blow bubbles with it like a straw by dipping it in soap and blow the other end.) It holds water, turns black and splits unless you keep it dry all the time.
