: box and not, if you don't use one and you suck debris into the pump,

: strainer as it does to increase the pump's pickup ability at low water
: levels. If flow rate is an issue, put more slots in the strum box or make

The difference we measured would be hard to notice, and a well anchored strum box can work as a strainer (but not as well as wire mesh, or the slotted plastic ends that Bosworth offers).
